The Artists’ Colony at Fanø

February 1 – August 2 2026

The Artists’ Colony is a popular tv series on the DR2 channel, where the viewers through several seasons have followed various groups of well-established artists. Every year, artists have been selected across age group, artistic practice, and creative expression, and subsequently it has been arranged for them to meet somewhere in Denmark, e.g. in Skagen or on Bornholm.

The common denominator of these locations is that they have been home to artists’ colonies and thus have played a role in the development of Danish art and culture. This year, the location is the Wadden Sea and the village of Sønderho on Fanø.

In this season, the sixth, the participants are Leif Sylvester, Alberte Skronski, Peter Land, Jack Kabangu, Anna Sofie Jespersen, and Malene Landgreen. They spent August of 2025 on Fanø, while the series, following the artistic process from initial idea to action, was broadcast in January 2026. It is still available on the streaming channel DRTV.

All the works of the exhibition were created during the artists’ stay on Fanø, and Esbjerg Art Museum is proud to be able to present the results of this unusual artists’ (co)operation. The exhibition is curated by Marie Nipper, while the series is produced by Eddy Media for DR.
