Ruth Campau · COLOR PUSH
September 26 2026 – February 21 2027
Ruth Campau is a painter who works in an expanded field. Her painting is spatial, and she challenges painting’s standard systems. She often uses a broom instead of a brush, and she applies long and parallel paint strokes to transparent sheets of mirrors or acryl. Color is her primary remedy, and the stroke itself becomes the artistic ‘content’.
Through her unique praxis, she has created painting installations that both shape and dissolve the spatial contexts of which they are part. For this particular exhibition, she has performed concrete interventions into the museum’s architectural framework, by activating both the museum entrance and the large elevator in the foyer.
The exhibition presents Ruth Campau retrospectively and focuses on art’s way of affecting the world in which we exist. At the same time, in the lower floor exhibition room, her praxis is juxtaposed with works from the museum’s collection of works by other artists that belong to the same tradition. And thus, the collection is actualized in a new way, too.
